Dom mody założony przez Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel w 1910 roku. Dom Chanel znany był z kapeluszy, a później do stosunkowo swobodnej, ale eleganckiej mody.

Pierwsze perfumy Chanel, Chanel nr 5, został wprowadzone na rynek w 1921 roku. W tym samym czasie wprowadzono także Chanel nr. 22, Bois des Iles, Gardenia i cuir de Russie. Pierwsze zapachy Chanel zostały zaprojektowane przez Ernest Beaux. Podobno ostateczna formuła perfum Chanel nr 5 była wynikiem błędu asystenta Beaux's. Niezależnie od tego, nr 5 był ogromnym sukcesem sprzedażowym i stał się jednym z najbardziej znanych na świecie perfum.

Kolejne znane zapachy to Chanel nr 19 z 1971 roku. Następnie pojawiały się już perfumy wydane po śmierci Coco Chanel: Coco (1984), Bois Noir (1987), Egoiste (1990), Platinum Egoiste (1993), Allure (1996), Allure Homme (1998), Coco Mademoiselle ( 2001) i Chance (2002).
